USER GUIDE

Please feel free to inquire at the General Information Counter located at the main entrance.

Services

  • Materials are classified and arranged based on the Nippon Decimal Classification.
  • Use the computer terminals to search our materials.
  • Fill in necessary information on the Call-slip and hand it in at the counter if you cannot find the materials you need in our stacks.
  • You can print out the Call-slip from the same computers you searched for materials.

    • User Registration

    A Library Card is needed when you borrow books and other materials from the library or use materials in the closed stacks or A/V materials.
  • Library cards can be issued if you live, work or study in Yamagata Prefecture.
  • Fill in necessary information on the Library Card Application Form and hand it in at the counter along with an ID that shows your name and address (such as a health insurance card, driver's license, or student identification card).
    • ※ Do not bring bags or baggage into the Library. Please put these items in the lockers.

    Borrowing Library Materials

    You can borrow a total of six books and/or A/V materials. You may borrow up to 6 books for up to three weeks if you are only borrowing books. You can borrow up to three A/V materials for up to seven days. (Primary schoolchild or older)
  • Hand in books you would like to borrow and your Library Card at the counter.
  • Return books to the counter. Put them in the return drop-box at the front entrance when the library is closed.
  • There are two return drop-boxes beside the front entrance so that visitors can return books on library holidays or after closing time.
  • Do not put A/V materials in the return drop-boxes. Return them to the Help Desk located on the 1st floor.

    • Request

  • When books you would like to borrow are on loan, fill in the User Reservation Form and hand it in at the counter.
  • When you would like the library to purchase new books or other materials, fill in the User Reservation Form and hand it in at the counter. We will make our best efforts to fulfill your requests.

    • Inter library Borrowing

    Users can have access to our materials through the nearby municipal or public hall library.

    Investigation consultation

    Please inquire about materials and information you need for your research at the Help Desk.
  • We help you to search information you need.
  • You can also perform on-line searches of materials located in the National Diet Library.
  • You can inquire by regular mail or telephone.

    • Photocopying

    To photocopy an item in the library, please fill in the Photocopy Order Form and hand it in at the Help Desk.
    Only one copy of the item can be made per person within the limits of the Copyright Law. (A fee is charged.)

    A/V Materials Corner

    Your Library Card is required when you use cassette tapes, CDs, videotapes.
    Apply for using these items at the counter.

    Newspaper/Periodicals Corner

    There are newspaper of the day and about 150 periodicals. Please feel free to read them at your leisure.

    Exhibition-Room for Collections of Prominent Yamagata Figures

    This room exhibits valuable works, treaties, manuscripts and diaries, etc. of 22 prominent figures born in Yamagata who were active in many fields of endeavor since the Meiji Era.

    Using the Research Room

    When you would like to hold a reading circle or study meeting using the library's materials, fill in the Research Room Reservation Application Form and hand it in at the counter.
    ※ Please withhold eating and drinking, smoking, and a cellular-phone telephone call in a library.

    Access by bus

    • 1.Take bus from Yamagata Station bound for 'Numanobe', get off at the 'Yugakukan-mae' stop, 3 min. walk from bus stop
    • 2.Take bus on route to 'Yamagata Shiyakusho' (Yamagata City Hall), get off at the 'Shiyakusho-mae' stop, 6 min. walk from bus stop
